Fonts

Text uses a font from the bundled library or one uploaded to the workspace. This page lists what each source offers, how font files become families and faces, and what happens when a document uses a font the workspace doesn't have. Also called: typefaces, brand fonts, font replacement.

Bundled fonts​

Where: Properties panel → Typography → the font picker.

  • The font picker shows one alphabetical list: the bundled Google Fonts families, mixed with the workspace's custom fonts.
  • The general-purpose Noto families are in the list, such as Noto Sans, Noto Serif and Noto Sans Mono. Script-specific Noto families are not.
  • Noto Color Emoji can't be picked: the editor draws emoji with it automatically, in any font.
  • Fonts load on demand: the editor and preview download a font file only when a document uses it.

Custom fonts​

Where: Settings → Workspace → Fonts → Upload Fonts, then drop files on the upload area or choose Browse Files.

Custom fonts are .ttf or .otf files of up to 50 MB each. Uploading needs Edit & Share on the workspace or workspace ownership (Permission levels), and Moio Lifetime Pro or a subscription that is active, in trial or past due (When a plan ends).

  • Several files upload at once. Files with another extension are skipped with a message that counts them. A file that is already in the workspace is refused, even under another file name.
  • Without such a plan, Upload Fonts is disabled and the page shows Font upload is available only on workspaces with an active subscription. Fonts uploaded earlier keep working in the editor and in preview, and can be renamed or deleted.
  • An uploaded font is available in every document of the workspace, to everyone who opens one, guests included. Preview loads it for every viewer.
  • A file import matches fonts by name against the workspace's custom fonts: upload them before you import a design.
  • The NAME column is editable. Renaming changes this list only, never the family or face name in the editor.
  • Deleting a font can't be undone. Documents are not changed: the next time one that uses the font is opened, the font is missing.

Families, weights and variable fonts​

Where: Properties panel → Typography → the font picker and the face dropdown after it.

  • Files are grouped by the family name stored inside each file, not by file name. Files with the same family name become one entry in the font picker; upload each weight and italic as its own file.
  • The face dropdown lists one entry per file, labelled with the style name stored in the file.
  • A variable font file adds one entry per named instance it defines, such as Light or SemiBold Italic. There are no axis controls, so values between named instances can't be set.
  • Ctrl + B switches to the weight 700 face of the same family (back to weight 400 when the selection is already bold), Ctrl + I to the italic face of the same weight. Bold and italic are never synthesized.
  • While you edit text, a family without that face leaves the selection unchanged and shows a message naming the family. With text layers selected, such fonts are skipped without a message.

Missing fonts​

A font is missing when it is neither in the bundled library nor among the workspace's custom fonts. Typical causes: an import, a deleted custom font.

  • The Missing Fonts dialog opens when you open the document and blocks the editor until you answer. It lists each missing face with the number of text layers that use it, and a replacement family and face for each, preset to Inter Regular.
  • Replace Fonts applies the replacements on every page of the document.
  • Cancel changes nothing and offers Back to Dashboard or Choose Replacement Fonts. The document doesn't open without a replacement: to keep the font, go back, upload it and open the document again.
  • Custom fonts belong to the workspace, so content pasted from a document in another workspace is checked for missing fonts before it lands (Reusing content across documents).
  • Preview shows no such dialog and replaces nothing.

The replacement is written into the document and can't be undone. Uploading the original font later doesn't bring it back.
