We're a rag-tag group of international misfits united by one belief: that design tools could be much better than they are. Sometimes we bring up vector calculations and sub-pixel rendering at dinner parties. Some other time we'll go waist-deep into the intricacies of text layers.
Everything is design – this is especially true for our medium. From the sign-in button, to the amount of time the server needs to respond. It's all part of a designed experience – conscious or not.
Product design has a problem – it's really hard to design the whole experience; visuals and interactions together. The way it should be done.
You wouldn't design a dope poster, then let the printer choose the colors, would you? But this is what we're seeing when products are designed visually, then handed over to developers, leaving interactions up to their discretion. Accidental design.
We've seen solutions that are great at visual design and process, but lack the interactive depth. We've also seen interactive tools that are very shallow when it comes to visual tools. We believe that building great products for a medium that is both visual and interactive requires a tool that gives you the freedom to do both at the same time seamlessly.
So we're building it. We're creating a tool that removes the barrier between design and function, giving designers control over the full user experience. It's time to make "design is how it works" a reality for all designers, not just the coding unicorns.
